Surely some of us have heard of Too Human , a potentially huge RPG game with cyber-norse gods , from Denis Dyack and Silicon Knights , the developers of Legacy of Kain and Eternal Darkness
This is one of the games that many people were excited for and were waiting for it for many years , sounds great right ? Well thats where things get dark.
First Too Human was announced as a 4-Disc game for the original PlayStation , however the game’s development changed and it became a Gamecube exclusive during it’s development hell , and then ultimately the game became an Xbox 360 exclusive and the full development of the game started
That was the beginning of its development hell but this is where things got really messy and bad.
Silicon Knights licenced the Unreal Engine of the Gears of War developers , Epic Games And the development of the game started , however Silicon Knights sued Epic games for giving them an Engine that didn’t work properly (Unreal Engine 3) , things got even worse when Epic counter-sued Silicon Knights for copying every single line of the code of Unreal Engine into their own engine and making the game , and thats when one of the biggest and most controversial wars in the video games history started , and after a long battle that lasted for almost half a decade , the Epic games defeated the Silicon Knights and won the suit $4 million
At the end of the day , court ordered to terminate every single copy of Too Humans in the market , which caused Silicon Knights to go out of business
The planned Trilogy for Too Human was cancelled , the game went through a crippled and hellish development , and the great potential was wasted
Too Human is available for free on Xbox 360 and on Xbox One through backwards compatiblity.
