Ubisoft has just released probably the worst game ever in the past week. Rainbow Six Extraction. Let's elaborate.
What is R6 Extraction?
It is essentially the Terrorist Hunt PVE mode in Rainbow 6 Siege. Instead of terrorists, you're hunting aliens. In some missions you're trying to save an agent, in others, you're just gathering intel by scanning hives. They want you to be tactical, but it can get tedious very quickly. They want you to be quiet around the aliens as you gain advantages by being stealthy. These advantages just give XP buffs which allows you to gain different gadgets from your operators faster. However, some missions just alert the aliens anyway and completely negate the aspect of being quiet.
You do use the operators that are inside of Rainbow Six Siege, you also use the guns in which they control, and also guns in which their “counterpart” can use. For example, Hibana can use her Type-89 as well as Echo’s MP5SD. This is great as you're seeing familiar faces, however, this lack of diversity from actual Rainbow Six Siege, makes it seem like an overpriced DLC.
How do I feel about this game?
In true honesty, I find it boring and stale. We had this exact game inside of Rainbow Six Siege as a one-time game mode. They took the bad things from the game mode, put it together, and made it worse. I tried rushing, I tried being tactical. It did not give a buzz to me. There was no element inside of the game that screamed, this is a 2022 game. It is the start of 2022, you want to start the year well, and we got this. I do appreciate them working on this, even through the hard times with covid. I just can not see a single reason why this would be a good game. There is so much more they could do with this, to make this good. It just feels like a mobile game. If this was a mobile game, 100% great game. It would be a Tom Clancy`s SAS-style game, and the SAS games on mobile go hard. They are some great games to kill time. I just think this game is not worth the money, not worth the expenses on servers. The game is at $50, which is reasonable, however, you’re just playing what you can do inside of Rainbow Six Siege for free. The game just had so much promise as well as the hype, and it really let us down. That there is the biggest hit of them all, and many games have fallen under that bus.
The positives?
There are a few positives that do help the game run well. For those, like myself, who want gamerscore. The game is so easy to get achievements. Most of the achievements are progression-based, for example, Kill X amount of Brutes, Kill X amount of hives, etc. I can be drunk and be able to gain this. There is also a minor positive which is for Xbox users too. The game is on Xbox game pass. Because of that, I would consider grinding out gamerscore The graphics are the same as siege and that is not a bad thing at all. I am one of them that loves the style of Siege and how it looks. The goo on the floor also looks like it's from an alien planet and I do know many games that have messed similar situations up.
Conclusion
I do not recommend this game to anyone. I do hope it gets better and they do more with the game. What also doesn’t help is that it is tied into Tom Clancy and I do believe that is a bad play. If Ubisoft made a proper stand-alone game, different operators, actually gave more things to do, it would be a good game. It is just not a great game and right now there are so many better options. We just had the Yugioh Master Duel. Great game, just had the hitman trilogy hit Xbox game pass Great game. It is an awful release from Ubisoft in a time where there are some big-time great games available for nothing (with Xbox game pass). I do love Ubisoft but this is just one where you just forget it ever existed. Just go play Terrorist Hunt inside of Rainbow Six Siege, it's a lot better and you don’t have to waste 36GB of storage.
