GTA, one of the most infamous titles out there. Recently there has been a new update to their massive game GTA V called Contracts. While this is exciting, many people have expressed that they feel like GTA is getting stale. So, what is happening?
To begin with, we must talk about GTA V and how long it has been around. GTA V was launched back in 2013, 8 years ago. That’s a long time for a singular game. This means that GTA has been around for 3 generations of consoles. And especially now, the updates are far and few in-between. We started off strong with updates and now we get an update every 4-6 months. The last update we got was the Tuners update which happened in June and the time before that was Cayo Perico. The past year with these updates, it feels like we have achieved nothing.

The Cayo Perico offered us a new playable area yet we could only experience this area in a tedious annoying heist setup. There was no refreshment. There was no new playable area. It was fun for maybe 1 hour but the fact you couldn’t achieve anything while playing in the area really didn’t satisfy you whatsoever. We then got the tuners update. The tuners update was really just adding cars and a couple of new races. We did get to the underground meet, but again we really can’t do much there. (a pattern is forming). GTA V has the same things happening over and over. We get a new update and there is nothing that keeps us in for long periods of time. I adore GTA but the updates from Rockstar are really making this game stale. Hopefully, Contracts solve this...
The Definitive Edition
We too have to talk about the Definitive Edition. For nostalgia purposes it was amazing. I re-completed GTA San Andreas and it really touched me to be able to play something from my childhood again. The problem is, first of all, people expected GTA V graphics. We have had GTA V for 8 years and I think everyone got used to those graphics. Secondly, it was lazy. Rockstar has apologised for the release of the definitive edition, but there is no denying how lazy it was. They changed the games from 3d to just HD and even changed a couple of factors for the worse. The games are great for originality but lack change. I would describe it as a dark souls – Dark Souls Remastered but it felt like it did an opposite. I personally think that there could have been many more adaptations to the Definitive Edition as a whole. What I will give however is the fact that all 3 games are only £55. I feel like many people look over that part. A new-gen game at the current moment is £60+. We are able to get 3 games for less. For me, while that does warrant a good buy. I still stand by the fact that it was pure laziness.

Touching onto Red Dead Redemption
We have to talk about Red Dead Redemption, another game which is made by Rockstar. Red Dead Redemption has followed the same pattern in which GTA V has, updates far and few in-between. Many people such as myself have really found the game to feel boring. It feels like that rockstar keeps doing the same thing over and over. We are in an endless loop and I think the situation with Red Dead Redemption 2 really does open up an insight into what is going on. I wouldn't want GTA to be classified as a failure and a game that ends up “dead”
To conclude. The big question. GTA VI

The money question, where is GTA VI. I think we are long overdue for a new GTA game. The updates are getting stale inside of GTA V and it all feels repetitive. A new story to delve into, a complete remake of the online with a new and (hopefully) bigger map with multiple cities to explore and do activities in. I feel like we are losing out on diversity, doing the same things over and over. Just a new change of scenery some new things to do, to explore. Maybe being able to create an online character literally designed to a role, for example, law enforcer. Do actual tasks which can vary from – FBI missions sneaking around collecting info on rival gangs, fighting drug labs, raiding gangs. Or the opposite, try and build a monopoly, collecting broken cars building them back up to “new” and building an empire. Making all of this time-consuming but at the same time fun. It could really engage a larger audience on top of the normal free foam shenanigans. It could just add an extra layer of fun which I think is needed. There are many things they could add to the world of GTA it’s just we need that new game to really help this series continue to grow. I don’t like hating on a game that I enjoy playing and I don’t want this to seem like an ordinary hate message, this is just my views on the situation. But with that said, go on, steal some cars and complete the ultimate Grand Theft Auto.
Thank you,
