Escapists 2, can you escape prison?

Escapists 2 is a prison break game made by Team 17 and Mouldy Toof Studios. This is the direct sequel to The Escapists series. But why are we talking about it? Escapists 2 has just hit the Games for Gold. So, anyone that currently has an active membership can gain access to Escapists 2 for absolutely free (a bargain).

What is The Escapists 2 about?

You start off in a prison and you have to break yourself out, it seems easy but it can get very challenging. There are always multiple ways that you can break out of prison. Cutting, digging, hiding, even fighting your way out. Every prison also has a “special” hidden way out. Without spoiling the game, in one of the prisons, you can actually get on a motorbike and ramp yourself out. There isn't a massive story inside of escapists 2 but the “story” is about using the “special” ways out. Each time you escape 1 prison, the next gets harder. Maybe there will be metal detectors in every room. Or maybe you only get 1 hour of free time with cameras everywhere. It's up to you to find your own way out which really creates a great dynamic where there is no right way to escape. Also, you can craft. Crafting is a key part of the Escapists 2 because that is how you escape. You have to search through other people's desks, which change every day, just so you can find components and items you may need to escape. As well as that, you have to make sure you keep your stats up in shape. There is an intelligence stat (which helps with crafting) strength stat (which is your health and how hard you can hit) and a speed stat (how fast you can run) all of these stats may save your life so don’t forget to bench-press and read your books.

What is the difference between Escapist 1 and Escapists 2?

Apart from being the direct sequel, they have done some good overall quality of life changes. The Escapists 2 helps with the crafting wherein the previous game it was an issue. Now, you don’t need to search around for blueprints for items you don’t know how to craft. Now you can just scroll through the crafting menu and it will also tell you how much intelligence you need to craft it. There are also more weapons and the fact that you can make anything a weapon. You want to smack someone with a bit of toothpaste, fire away. It creates the feeling where you have to use what you can to survive. There are also now new sprites and new maps in which you can dive into. This just helps with keeping the games fresh and brand new. Each sprite is now more detailed and you can fully customize your sprites to look however you want. They also now allow a 4-person multiplayer mode. You can invite your friends to jail with you and try and escape. Myself and my friend have escaped quite a few prisons and together it’s really fun. It might sound weird to say it's good fun chilling in prison with your friends but, it is good fun. There are also now dogs and a “lockdown” level. Higher the level, more guards, so you want to keep your head down and that lockdown level low.

Why should you play The Escapists 2 and what is my opinion of the game?

As I said before, it is good fun. You do lose track of time really easily while playing the game because you are so stuck into escaping. The time just flies past and next thing you know it's been 2 hours and you’ve escaped. Changing difficulties by progression also helps me to keep involved in the game, that's because it isn't the same simple way out. As well as that, the game can throw curveballs at you in unexpected ways. At roll call, there is a shakedown where your desk could be searched. Curveballs like that make you have to keep on your toes. The game is also free so, for me, instant pickup. Being free, and also being fun it can be a great game for casual players to dive into. It could also be a great game to play with your friends. A nice chilled game will do great especially with the run-up to Christmas.

To conclude

The Escapists 2 is great fun and I honestly believe it is worth a shot. The game can be quite basic as there are many games out there that do it better, however, the fact that it is a game for gold makes it great. The Escapists 2 was off the hype of Escapists 1 so that does play a factor in why I feel like other games have done it better. All in all, it is worth the download and worth the time. You can get some nice easy gamerscore from the game so go download it!

I rate the game a good 7/10. It’s a good game to delve into and can be good fun for a decent amount of time. On that note, go break out of prison and show the guards who really run the place.
