Ninja Theory Gives Hellblade Fans Something to Look Forward to in 2023

Fans of Senua's Saga: Hellblade II have been eagerly anticipating the sequel to the 2017 independent AAA masterpiece for some time. The game was announced as an Xbox Series S|X exclusive at The Game Awards 2019, and is also set to be released on Windows PC. However, despite the passage of time, there have been few updates or information released about the game, leaving fans in the dark.

In 2020, developer Ninja Theory shared some details about the Icelandic setting of the game and the journey of protagonist Senua, who will face challenges on a journey of hundreds of miles. In an interview with IGN, Ninja Theory's Tameem Antoniades discussed the team's approach to the game, saying, "We want to make something extra special for Senua's Saga: Hellblade II, which means doing extensive research and even getting actress Melina Juergens to train for two years so that combat would be more real and brutal."

Despite this, fans were treated to an in-engine trailer of the game at The Game Awards 2021, providing a glimpse of what was to come. In March 2022, Principal Game Designer Juan Fernández de Simón further fueled excitement for the game, stating in an interview with GamingBolt that the sequel would be of exceptional quality when compared to similar games and in line with Ninja Theory's standards. He said, "I can tell you that the quality of Senua's Saga: Hellblade II will be through the roof. It will be a game that will set a new bar for games in its genre and considering the size of Ninja Theory, it will be a game that will be comparable to any AAA title out there."

After a long wait, fans finally received some good news on Christmas Day when Ninja Theory tweeted that official developer diaries for Senua's Saga: Hellblade II would be returning in 2023. The tweet, which can be found here, has reignited hopes that the game may be released towards the latter end of the coming year.

While fans wait for more updates on the game, they are encouraged to check out the original Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, which has received updates including ray tracing, NVIDIA DLSS, and AMD FSR support. The game is also available in virtual reality for an even more immersive experience.
