To say Far Cry 6 is visually pleasing simply wouldn’t do it justice; it’s straight-up eye candy. In fact, it’s one of, if not THE best looking games I’ve played thus far on Xbox’s newest generation of consoles (I’m rocking Far Cry 6 on Xbox Series X myself.) Everything from the breathtaking panoramic sunsets to a lonely piece of fruit laying on the jungle floor looks amazing in all of its glorious detail. Ubisoft Toronto did a stellar job of visually immersing players in the tropical paradise of Yara.
The gameplay is as smooth as butter to the point where even simple movements like walking feel good. The weapons act and feel exactly how I'd expect them to, and gunfights are extremely enjoyable thanks to the expansive arsenal of wonderful destruction at one’s disposal. There’s a weapon and gear set to match every occasion and playstyle, and finding which ones best suited me was gleefully pleasant. There’s just something so satisfying about disabling a chopper with the Zeusito resolver weapon and watching it fall out of the sky and crash into a ball of flames. Being the breach-and-clear guns-a-blazin' kind of guy that I usually am, I felt a nice change of pace was needed and occasionally opted for a more stealth approach. The compound bow was ready and waiting for me to aid in this style of play. That sweet “shhhhunk” sound when the arrow strikes true was music to my ears. My only complaint in the weapon department would be that the melee attacks feel a bit slow and underwhelming, excluding the machete insta-kill which is gratifying as all hell.

The vehicles in Far Cry 6 are an absolute blast, quite literally, especially the tanks and helicopters. The tanks have a good “this porridge is just right” quality to them in that they feel exactly as a tank should - formidable but not indestructible. Bowling over anything and everything in my path with Karlito is one of my favorite ways to travel in Yara, but hands down my absolute favorite way to travel around Yara has to be by helicopter. One of my favorite parts of flying is that the views to be seen are nothing short of incredible. However, I’m sadly not a huge fan of the planes. While all the different planes look, feel, and behave wonderfully, they don't allow the player to enjoy much of the scenery compared to a helicopter because they can't hover. I admit this does come down to personal preference, and they are the fastest way to travel aside from fast travel itself. The smaller choppers on the other hand, are a joy to fly because they’re nimble enough to skim close to the ground so I don’t miss out on any of the random happenings among the NPCs scattered throughout the map. As per my guns-a-blazin’ style, I’ve taken quite nicely to bailing out of a chopper and wing suiting into chaos, unapologetically dispatching all enemies with extreme prejudice. Mowing down some trees with the chopper rockets was so oddly satisfying to watch, I'd often sit there for five or ten minutes and send barrage after barrage just to watch it over and over.
Far Cry 6 is easily the most fun I’ve had this generation so far. The visuals, the smoothness of the gameplay, the weapons, and vehicles and the interesting story are all top-notch. This is a game I’ll come back to time and time again for years to come. Hats off to you Ubisoft Toronto, well done.
